The other day I drove a mustang with a supercharger and I got to thinking that the sound a supercharger makes is the coolest sound I've ever heard come from an engine. So I got to thinking, what if I put one on my truck's engine. Of course I've never seen a supercharger kit for a 4.9 so I figured it would require some fab work, but thats not the biggest concern of mine. I have read about lots of people turboing 300's before and am curious of how they solved their fuel supply issues. I am thinking of a setup running around 6-8 psi of boost (I have heard of turboed 300's running similar boost) on a 1990 efi motor. I am just interested in any insight on reprogramming of the computer, what injectors would work, and what variable fuel pressure regulator setups would work. I am just curious what some turbo setups run for fuel, and I figure the fuel setup would be easier to tune with the more linnear boost of a supercharger.
If you can get ahold of a kit designed for a 5.0 ford truck, make your own bracket for the compressor unit, run the appropriate belt length. Then use the FMU (fuel management unit), along with appropriate injectors, you should be in business without any computer modification, at least with the boost level your shooting for.
