anyone using the hei distributor?

While I'm still trying to diagnose my Duraspark problem I've been looking at the hei units. Any one using one of these? Looks very inviting. Think of it, just one wire and not a resistance wire at that! AHHH!

I haven't got one yet, but I will. I've talked to several people who have used them, and haven't heard anything negative yet. Tim Meyer used one on his 400 project, and told me it's a good choice, it made good dependable power. I don't have anything against the Duraspark system, but the HEI set-up really cleans up the engine compartment and has been proven very dependable. It also doesn't hurt that the parts for these HEI distributors are cheap and plentiful.

I'm happy to hear these responses...I've posted elsewhere on this same issue, and have heard split-decisions. Some people love them, some say they don't. But think about it: you can buy two of them for $200 and carry a spare in case something happens to the first one.

Major complaints seemed to be ease of adjustment and the mods dying.

I think what most people don't like is the fact that it was not invented by FOMOCO. One has to admit, or at least should admit, when someone else came up with a better idea. 50,000 volts and a wider plug gap is hard to argue with.
