My 95 F-150 has a Pioneer deck and lately over the last 6months to a year I've noticed that the quality of reception I'm getting on FM stations is deteriorating. I never use AM but now I have static on just about every station when I know it should be coming in clearly. It's probably antenna/wiring related, maybe a bad terminal or connection...but I'm not sure what to look at first.
Should I pull the deck out and clean the antenna wire that goes into the deck first?
I use an Ipod with FM modulator plugged through the cig lighter and get static with that too, but it's probably related to the same overall FM reception problem...
check your antenna on the fender. Might be corroded. Your antenna relies on a good ground. If it's a bad connection to your fender then you need to clean it or get a new antenna.
For those of you with a 97 and up older body F-150 there was a major problem with the antenna on your fender. They would actually get water into them and the water would go all the way to the radio and either short the radio out or just rust the antenna input. I used to work for the QC department for the radio repairs for Ford. Would always have to replace the antennas on those trucks.
The antenna grounds to your fender. When it's screwed down the the fender that's the contact. It can get corroded and needs cleaned or even a new antenna. Sorry 97 to 2004. I'm just used to saying old body because the dealers seem to forget to tell us if it's the 2004 heritage or the new body. Never fails. I run out to put a bedliner or bars on the thing and it's the opposite body style.
