I was wondering if it is possible to change a 92 grand marquis motor over to a carburated motor, the motor has multi port fuel injection, and the plugs are in the manifold!! is there any way to change it over for fairly cheap?? Thank you for all your help!!
yes you can, in fact i just got done doing it. all you have to do is change the intake manafold and carb, then the distributor has to be changed, non efi will work fine, and you also have to do something about the fuel pump, i took a 1984 f-250 gastank with intank fuel pump and put the pump in my tank, but you can also buy a external elect fuel pump, or i think you can change the front cover on the
engine to one that accepts the mechanical fuel pump.
yes i know it can be done, but the only problem i have is that the spark plugs are in the intake manifold, right next to the injectors, i was wondering what you would do after you got the injectors out then you would have fuel coming out the manifold is there an aftermarket manifold that can be used or am i better of to get a different engine, I would like to keep this one though, it is a strong runner
Ok I have to ask, remembering I am "EFI Challenged" If the sparkplugs are next to the injectors.... and both are in the intake manifold..... does that mean the fuel is pre-ignited on the way into the cylinder????
are you speaking of the overhead cam modular motor? no distributor just a coil pack on each head? if you are, its a completely differant designed animal.
Geeze, talk about out of place! Guys, could you please respect the guidelines and post your questions in the appropriate forums. Let's cool it on this thread before it gets locked.
i know this seems to be in the wrong category but i was here and i am gonna put that motor in my 78 ford, yes i was talking about the motor without the distributor and yes they are right next to it
The overhead cam engine is a great running unit, but keep in mind, that all the parameters for the computer, and engine design was meant for that particular car. I know that those motors do great on top end performance, but slightly doggy at the bottem end. You have a heavy truck, so cam timing and fuel metering will need changing. Since it uses a coil pack, it will need the computer to fire them. YOu would be much better off sticking with a push rod engine of that era to get the grunt needed for your rig, not to mention light years easier to install, and less headaches
