Overheating problem
Overheating problem
I was heading into town, when my truck started overheating, I pulled over, and checked the water. It was down about 1/2 gallon. I continued and it overheated again in about 5 miles. I pulled over, and yanked the thermostat, and ran without it. I made it to town, and on the way back it was still overheating, and loosing water at about a gallon every thirty miles. I can't find a leak, and was thinking that my head gasket was blown, there are no major signs of water in the oil, or exhaust. I think my water pump isn't working. In the cab there isn't any heat, even though the engine is boiling hot. What do you guys think? Thanks,
There is usually a Hole in the bottom of the Water Pump that will start leaking water if it goes bad, @ least that has been my experience.
One can blow the Head Gasket between the Water Jacket & a Piston, it's rare, but it can happen.

If you have checked all the usual areas to loose water and are sure no water is leaving the engine, there is another possibility. If the problem started all of a sudden, it could be the W/P. It's rear but I have seen the shaft break at the impeller end and the pump show no outward signs of trouble. I have also seen the impelled spin on the shaft and thus move little or no coolant through the engine. Good luck.
Air locks
My truck will suck all the coolent out of the resivoir but after that it dosn't drop in the rad. but any way if you have had any repairs or any thing done in the last little while an air lock could be your problem. it heats up and pisses out the coolent. atleast thats what happend to mine. it also forces it in to the oil. hope it helps.
Thanks for everyones input. It turned out to be the water pump, the blades were just spinning on the shaft, I am just glad it was a simple fix, now I can move on to the rest of the problems.
