Is this a know security problem?

I have 2 Ford SD pickups, an '03, and '05. Breakins were attempted on both of them in exactly the same way 150 miles apart. 2 different crooks tried to stick a screwdriver between the plastic door handle, and the sheet metal of the truck directly under the keyhole. That the same method of breaking in would occur in completely different parts of the state leads me to believe that this is a known security issue (at least to thieves). Both trucks were still locked in the morning and nothing was missing. Did the crook politely re-lock the truck after the attempt, or maybe he didn't get in at all? Do they not have alarms? Both have keyfobs, I thought that this was both locking the doors and setting an alarm.

The keyfobs are only a "keyless entry system," not an alarm. The lights flash and the horn honks when you set the system leading you to think you have a an alarm, but it is only a light and sound making system. Test it out for yourself. Sit inside the cab, lock the doors with the remote, and then open the doors. (nothing happens). Get some Jimmy Jammers for the door locks. Yes, this is a commonly known break in method. Also, invest in a true security system with a starter kill relay, etc. You usually get an insurnace discount too if you install one, and you'll feel a little more secure when you park your truck.

Tell me more about jimmy jammers. Googling it got nothing useful.

Thanks

I ordered mine from pickupgear.com. They cost about $50. They are metal shields that protect the handle and lock from being pryed and punched out. You can also replace the door locks with "no-lock" handles from the rear of a crewcab (no-lock = nothing to pryout), and just use the keyless entry system. But you might be stuck if your battery ever dies, and the crooks could just break your window to get in. At least it makes it tougher, and they might pick some other vehicle to break into instead. While you're at it, you might want to order a tailgate lock too since it is also very easy for crooks to steal the factory gate. That lock costs about $20. Cheap insurance for the price IMO. Good luck.

Mine got broken into in Vancouver Canada back in July and they just pryed on the door handle assembly until it cracked in half and they popped the whole door handle assembly off. Looks like the tried to turn the key cylinder with a screw driver first and that didn't work.
