The best thing about that stuff is it will prolong the life of your ip as it has lube in it that todays fuel dosent have any more(sulphur),also has an anti gell in it,that too comes in handy.Personally i use it every tank, all year round. It will help keep your fuel system clean and lubed,i would deffinatly advise you to use it.Most here recomend stanadyne however none of the brands are bad.I use whatever is cheapest when i go to buy some.
My truck runs noticeably smoother and perhaps a tad stronger with Power Service in the tank. Also starts slighly quicker when very cold (and unpluged). A frind of mine with a PSD did some extensive testing with and without the power service in his truck and found that he gained enough mpg improvement with it that it more than offset the cost of the power service. This was a couple years ago when fuel was cheeper and power service is still about the same price......
Botom line, I find it well worth running this stuff in every tank. Even if it does nothing for the ip or injectors I will still break even or better and in theory it should help the ip last longer too.
I use additive also, every tank full. I was using lucas, then switched to the silver jug from TSC. It really seems to make a diffrence.
A little secret that leaked out from one of the big 3 R&D centers one of my friends retired out of. He used to laugh as all of us dummies actually paying several bucks for a teeny bottle of injector cleaner. In a gas motor, save yer money and dump 4 or so ounces of regular old ATF in your gas tank next time you fill up. This really works and I have done it for the last 10 years.
Another thing for gassers, and I swear by it, Get a can of sea-foam, on a warm motor, let it idle and suck half the can into the vacuum system, I used the brake boost line. Kill the motor immediatly (helps to have a friend at the key) and let set for 15 minutes, dump the other half in your gas tank. Drive it for a few miles. Its like buying a new truck without the payment. I could not believe what a difference it made on my F150. Night and Day.
Yep, the latter works - the "BG Induction Cleaning System" that most shops do on gassers (for $125) is simply a cleaner that is sucked though the vacume system. They do use a regulator to make sure too much cleaner isn't sucked in at once causing hydrololic lock, but otherwise its just a can of cleaner as described.
Pls more nfo on sea-foam
would like to try this on a 95 ranger

just like the directions. Suck half the can into the vacuum system on a warm engine, immediatly kill the motor, dump the rest in the gas tank, let the engine sit for 15 minutes. Start it up and drive it a litttle. All kinds of crap came out my exhaust.
I was always skeptical of additives before, but this really works and works well. I have done it to 5 vehicles now, all with 60,000+ miles on them and the same fantastic results.
i called a guy at powers services and he recommended diesel kleen. here is what he had to say...he didn't "seem" like a bull*****er but who knows, maybe he was just trying to sell his product. here is what he told me:
use it double strength to get the most cetane boost possible. more than that and you are wasting your money because deisel fuel can only be boosted so far and then it reaches its saturation point and you cant gain any more cetane...use it to clean very dirty injectors but he said it may take 50 hours of double strength. after that in every tank but only the regular strength. the big container is 12 bucks at walmart and is 96 onces. at regular strength it treats 300 gallons. i add it to every fill up of diesel and vegetable oil...don't measure really...just mark the bottle with a pen to mark 25 gallons and dump it in.
I've been using it for over a year. I normally double dose for good measure. I drive the truck quite infrequently and still haven't used a whole jug just yet. You'll see me talking about it in the above posts, though I usually just call it power service
