To Modify or not to Modify?????

I am having trouble deciding on a Super Duty. I have driven and used diesels and the 2 valve V10 and love both. What is making it a tough decision is I can buy a V10 and put a lift, wheels, and tires on it for the same price as a stock diesel($45,000). I have always wanted a lifted truck, but have never owned one. All my new trucks get bigger tires on them with in a couple days of purchase. I just have not taken the lift kit plung! I have no need for either engine currently. I have the opportunity to buy my dream truck and want to make the right decision. How do you guys make the decision between V10 and Diesel?

Thank you for letting me vent,

Nebraska

When I switched from gasser to diesel, I decided noone could ever force me to switch back. I think a lifted diesel has more appeal and resale value in the long run if you ever wanted to sell it.

I wish I had your decision to make..
I think it depends on what you want to do with your truck. If you tow large loads in hilly area's then get a diesel. If not then get the v10. If you gotta have the diesel then you have your answer.

I agree the diesels are great, but if I get one the lift will have to wait!! I may be able to swing a leveling kit and 35's with the diesel. Part of me just wants to have all that power and I love hearing the turbo!!!!!!! The V10 has more than enough power and costs less (aka lift, wheels, and tires). I appreciate your help.

I guess I am trying to justify either spending the $5000 on the engine or V10 and lift, etc.

Thanks,

Nebraska

Here, maybe this will help you out. And oh yeah, GAS VS. DIESEL IS VERY, VERY OLD!

If its your dream truck, make darn sure you get the one you want, even if it costs a little more My dream truck was the diesel, I love it!!! shop around and do the work yourself. I've got $1530 in my lift, shocks, tires and wheels.

Yeah..go with what you want...either way you will spend $ modding it. My advice would be to hold out and get the lift you want or you will end up spending more money down the road.

I just spend a bunch of dough on tires and the old ones are up for sale if anyone is interested

you could buy a gasser and have tons of money left over for a lift and such...

But on a more serious note, it comes down to which is more important to you, the lift and bigger tires or the diesel. And who's to say that you couldn't have the best of both worlds if you went with the diesel then waited a while to afford the lift and tires for it?

I wish I could find one of those mother-in-law seats for the front of my F250. You think ebay might have them?

Yes those seats are great! For many people Wives, unruley teens, And of course mother- in- laws. That ride would staighten out a 15 year old right quick.

I bought 2" Fabtech coil spacers off ebay for $114. With the snow plow prep springs (stiffer, longer) and teh coil spacers, it is about a 3" lift over a non-snowplow prepped truck. I then bought factory F350 rear blocks, u-bolts, and nuts from a Ford dealer for $115. F350 rear blocks are 4", F250 are 2". I had to get longer front shocks, since the stock fake ranchos were maxxed out. I got some +4" longer RS5000s Ranchos from Summit for about $85 a pair. Just a hair over $300 to lift the truck 2" and about 3.5 hrs total labor by myself in my garage with reg hand tools, an impact, a couple jacks and some jack stands. No alignment needed, although any coil spacer lift will pull the front axle very slightly to the left. The more complete kits will come with new brackets to compensate for this. So I did the cheapy method, but I don't see any potential problems at this time. Maybe a clearance issue off raod, but its not an offroad truck. If it become ones someday, maybe a donahoe lift will go on.
