Holley vs. Edelbrock
I prefer the Edelbrock carbs over the Holleys for street use. I used to run a 4 barrel Holley on the 283 in my 1936 Chevy pick-up (yes Chevy...sorry about that) and always had problems with the power valves. When the carb was set up right it was great, but it was rarely right. I switched to a Carter AFB (identical to the new Edelbrocks) and never had another problem. I'm running a 600 cfm Edelbrock on the 390 in my 1972 F100 and other than setting the A/F ratio and adjusting the acellerator pump shot, the carb is box stock. This engine is smooth from idle to WOT and there is not the slightest hint of hesitation when you put your foot down. My wife's nephew has a 600 Edelbrock on the 390 in his old Galaxie and he is having problems with a hesitation when he puts his foot in it, but I feel sure that a little tweaking of the pump shot will fix that. For race engines I still would rather have a Holley but give me a Carter/Edelbrock for the street any day.
