Part Number for IAC
I'm hoping I can reach a parts technician through this message, I need some help here:
I need an IAC for my '97 4.0 SOHC Explorer. Easy you'd think... well I'm over in the UK, over 3,000 miles away from a parts guy who knows their stuff about American Fords, so I ordered one online, quoted the VIN # and everything and when it came it was the wrong part. Tried another (UK-based this time) parts supplier and the same thing happened; wrong part. He checked it out and confirmed he'd sent the correct IAC for my vehicle as listed by Ford.
So I started investigating on the motorcraft parts website and some other online stores (rock auto etc), they all show the same (wrong) part listed for my vehicle.
The part they show is Ford part # 96TF-9F715AB BUT the part that came off of my car is Ford part # 97JF-9F715BA.
The difference between the "wrong" part and the one that came off the car is that, on the correct part the electrical connector is at the "3 O'clock" positionbuton the wrong (new) part it's sticking up vertically at "12 O'Clock". This means that I can't re-install the "4.0 SOHC" engine cover when I plug the wiring harness in because of the extra height, and when I close the hood the connector bites into the foam and I'm concerned that the wires'll break or coupler snap with the vibration from the motor.
I can't find a listing anywhere for a 97JF-9F715BA IAC valve, not even on the Motorcraft website.
Can anybody tell me, is this a superseeded part number?
I know it's a correct # ; it's stamped into the body of the valve that came off the car and I have it right here for reference.
Has it been replaced by the 96TF-715AB? if so, what else has to be done to get the thing to fit under the engine cover and the hood to shut safely?
If you guys can't answer this, is there an email address I can send a tech question to Ford through?
Thanks.
On mine, NOTHING sticks up above the top of the can; the highest point is the seam where the solenoid joins the valve body, and this ONLY JUST fits under the engine cover . It has the electrical connector at the "3 O'Clock" position (as you're looking at the valve, stood at the front of the car looking into the engine compartment) so the wires come out horizontally toward the left side of the car.
The air breather is also slightly wrong in the photo; mine comes out at right-angles (parallel to the electrical connector) where that one is cranked about 45 degrees fore-and-aft...but I don't think that would be a problem, there's nothing in the way there to get fouled up.
Thanks for your help, is there any place I can sort this problem out?
Hope this helps.

So far, no reply. I'm assuming they don't want my business!
I also emailed www.rockauto.com to see if they could supply the correct part but their customer service buffoon kept redirecting me to their (wrong) part in the catalog despite my telling him it's the wrong part. His last email said that the part numbers were "close if you ignored the first few wrong numbers at the start of it"!!
Actally the ONLY similar numbers are the 9f715 in the middle; both start and end of the part# are different and the photo link shows an IAC similar to the one tigerdan mentioned.
How do these companies EVER make money if this is their level of "technical" support and customer "service"? Sheesh!
Thanks.

The one on the left is an OEM number of 96TZ-9F715-AB, and on the right is a 97JZ-9F715-AB, both are made by Niehoff Ignition and carry part numbers 22972 and 22973 respectively. They don't appear to have the electrical connector and vent angled exactly as you describe but may work. The application for both is for a '98 Explorer SOHC 2 or 4wd through Kragen auto parts.

You might try a google search for the part number, or maybe a uk auto parts can order the BW part. I do not understand why carparts.com has not replied to you. I would send them an email titled urgent and request a return reciept. They have always been good to me.
Hope this helps

I'll contact Kragen first and see if they'll ship to me. If they will, I'll see if I can't source the exact part#. If not I'll make do with one of the two you mention above but I suspect that I won't ba able to refit the "SOHC" engine cover if the IAC has any part protruding higher than the top of the solenoid/valve body seam.
Thanks for the help. It's so difficult when you're 3500 miles away from a store where you can take the old part in and say to the parts guy "gimme one just like this"!
