Before replacing the relay, give the door latches, including the tailgate and window latches, a good dousing with WD-40. The light switches, found in the door latch assemblies, sometimes stick in the "on" position.
The driver door ajar switch was sticking and is now working thanks to WD-40. If I understand correctly the battery saver relay is the second line of defense in case the door ajar switch malfunctions. The relay does not appear to be working. I left the interior lights on for an hour and they never shut off. I am concerned that the switch will malfunction again and the battery will run down due to the relay not working. Chiltons and the Ford owners manual do not help at all with locating the relay or troubleshooting. Any advice?
I don't have the electical schematics. I can't help you much on that. But, how did you leave the interior lights on? If you used the thumbwheel next to the headlight switch, I think that overrides the relay. I'm reasonably certain that the relay only kicks in if a door or tailgate/tailgate window is open.
If your door latch is messed up your car is gonna think door has been left open therefore, is is not gonna override the delay relay. If I remember the relay will function only if all doors are closed and a light has been left on.
