Does any of you have digital telephone service? I have had Vonage for a couple of months now, and the service quality is absolutely terrible! Poor sound quality, dropped outgoing voice, etc., and they have been unable to

have quality problems......I think the problem is in Vonage's server network...
I switched to the Comcast VoIP once it became available here. Other than a few bugs when they first installed it and the very occasional static, I love it.
I got tired of getting screwed by the local phone company - $6 caller ID, $4 call waiting, etc. etc. One price now, all inclusive, no more long distance charge and so on. Screw Verizon - they had the market cornered for years and took advantage of us - now they send me letters every month wanting me back. Good luck.

I've had Vonage for over a year now, and have been very happy with it. A couple of months ago, we were having issues with lost audio. I switched my Bandwidth saver from highest sound quality to normal sound quality and haven't had an issue since.
Verizon was giving us a huge screw job (around $90/month, and couldn't get any of their package deals in my area), and I also had a couple of outages with them which really ticked me off.

I've used Vonage for 2+ years and, for the cost, am very pleased with it. Their service/tech dept. is lousy but it's on par with the rest of the communications field.
I did have some problems similar to yours a while back. It seems my old cable modem, Toshiba 1100x (something like that), had some compatability issues with the updated Vonage hardware/software. I installed a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard modem and the problems went away. Check the forums at Vonage. I've found more useful info there than I ever got through the tech services.

I had a friend who worked at Best Buy when Comcast changed their speed to 6mbit. He said that Best Buy had a ton of people coming in because the old modems, or the ones Comcast provided were taking a dump and not working with the faster speeds.
I work for a phone system reseller. My company also owns an ISP. We sell SIP trunkage to businesses mailnly. Most are hooking them into their older phone systems to get cheap long distance.
The voice qualty is only as good as your connection. At business localations we always inplament some type of qos to make sure the voice traffic gets out first.
Many home users have learned to use a poor mans QOS by limiting bandwidth by not surfing or downloading files while on the phone.
The any one has any questions let me know. Vontage does have a good forum and the is a ton of info out there on the net.

I have had service with http://www.VOIP.net for several months now with a flat $20/month fee with no add-ons. Generally the quality is very good. I sometimes notice an echo or hesitation when I first start talking but it seems like the servers link up better so to speak almost immediately and from then on no problem. The worst calls seemed to be with cell phones. There may be a packet size mismatch or something with some of those networks. Overall the quality is quite acceptable. No more problems than with some landline connections. I think I am just "looking" for problems because it is a new type of service. Customer service by phone is great but forget getting any attention by email for a problem. I never even get a acknowledgment that they have received an email much less a response. It took a while to get a virtual number from them since the first number they assigned me was in use by someone else. The best part is there are no "phone bull" fees that the other services use to pad their bills. VOIP.NET is a
