Subwoofer timing issues.

I recently put two 8" Kicker Comps in my truck, in a unpartitioned circular ported box, at about 1.5cu'. I listen to some trance every now and then (DJ Tiesto, usually) and I notice that the subs are always just barely out of time. The beat is always four on the floor, and the hits are just slightly behind every time. I tried changing the crossover, adjusting the focus and the bass eq, and (temporarily) sealing the box, but nothing works.

Any ideas?

The head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P3600 and the amp is an Alpine T-220.

Cheers,
Xabrophazon

silly question but are your polarities right? Out of phase? One quick test without pulling the subs from the enclosure is to take a 9volt battery and pop the speakers with it. When the speaker pops outward what ever wire is on the positive terminal of the battery is your positive on the speaker.

I'd check your polarity like KC said, it's weird for them to be out of time, especially within your truck, not like it's a huge room or anything where time alignment would be a problem.

I checked my polarity a thousand times, but I found that, oddly enough, if I just barely crack the windows, they get in time and sound stronger. I'm not sure what causes that... but it works! They're still a hint out of time... I'm very sure that the polarity is correct. Is there anything else that could be the problem?

Are they in seperate boxes or in a single box? If it's a single box did you create two individual chambers, one for each sub? If not they may negating eachother.

They would negate eachother if they were different subs and/or powered by anything else except a mono-channel amp.

the fact they are louder with the window cracked/down is you are allowing more airflow, basically turning the cab into a bandpass enclosure. have you tried reversing the phase (different than polarity)? you should be able to put the sub out at 180 deg. out of phase from the headunit.

The bass issue with your windows cracked is a common problem. My Excursion is the same way. You'll find alot of people have more bass with the windows cracked. Just proves that your truck is sealed good..lol

Yes, I'm able to change the phase from the headunit. Sadly, it doesn't seem to help. I suppose I'll just have to live with it -_-

Thanks again for the help guys.

How long are the speaker wires running to your subs? Perhaps you could shorten them a little.

Try this

Run just one of the subs out of phase. I know it sounds odd but some times it works.
