I can get a set of reman injectors to my door for $149, (with two o rings and the copper washer) and I can get them pop tested for 25$. Thats puts me at 175 for new injectors. For 30 I can get the entire return set, thatsd puts me at 205 for the whole shebang. Is this reasonable? Any opinions on remans? Am I coorect to assume that if they pop test right, and spray well then it will be okay?
Also, when replacing injectors and bleeding the air from the system do I just crank the engine with the inector cap loose until clear fluid comes out?
Thanks.
Clint
Ahh the local price for pop testing is 25 dollars each.
I had mine rebuilt at a local shop.
4 injectors were bad, two not spraying, two not sealing the fuel off.
Total cost of the rebuild including new crush washers and O ring was 287 dollars.
As long as you are just changing injectors you should be able to tighten everything up and crank it. The bleeding is needed when the IP is remove or the fuel lines are removed.
Do be carefull about the cranking time though, 15 seconds cranking then a 2 minute cool down period for the starter.
Is that really what it costs locally to get injectors poptested? My guy says he can do it in one half an hour for all eight. 25 a pop, man that could get spendy quick. Maybe we are not talking the same thing. My guy says he puts the req. pressure, makes sure they open and then makes sure they spray right. Something about spraiying into a "glass" cylinder setup so you can visually see the spray. Does this sound right? is there something in the testing procedure im missing?
Also, I would be heaving remans tested. I read on FTE that it is somehting smart to do, is it often that a reman fails?
my buddy just replaced injectors in his 94 idi factory turbo and new synadyne injestors where like 35 dollars a piece, just the injector tips where 20
either way you go id get them pop tested and matched to each other for best performance. or u could get stage I +20hp injectors from Diesel Performance Specialists for $38 a piece
quality (and I emphasize the term "quality") injection shops are set up to test all the injectors at one time. they will tell you if there are bad (weak) injectors and what it will cost to repair them or set you up with replacement injectors for those or all that are bad. You should be using stanadyne additive to each tankful of fuel since the fuel is not the same as it used to be. new fuel has more sulphur taken out and that is what used to lube the injection system.
Dave is pretty close to right on the bleeding issue. DONT CRANK ON THE STARTER TOO LONG ... sensitive to overheating.
Good luck, anyother questions get back to us.
