Is there a way to program or change the default of the overdrive off to be off as soon as you start the truck without shutting it off everytime the ignition is turnned on. Living in northern New England and hardly ever getting on roads that have posted speed limits of above 50 unless traveling on the interstate I have no need to use overdrive. The fuel savings is so minimal that I would rather the truck aways go to overdrive off evertime that I start the truck and the very few times that the truck gets over 60 mph I can hit the button and use overdrive as I wish. I feel that this is better for the trans. Any ideas or suggestions?
My OD kicks in at 45 fwiw. The only time you really need to turn off OD is when towing or hauling a heavy load, otherwise leave OD on and forget about it. What you are doing may actually be harder on your tranny
Just my 2 cents

That makes sence too but going up and down hills causes constant shifting in and out of overdrive and I can't stand it when approaching a in town area and I let off the gas to the point where I'm barely on the gas without ever touching the brake and the trans stays in overdrive to as low as 30. I much preffer a manual, maybe I should just get rid of the auto and go with what works and what I know.
One thought is to purchase an aftermarket performance chip. These definitely change the shift points upward on an electrically controlled tranny like the E4OD (substantially depending on what you buy). If your interested in going this route call around to a few of the chip makers and see what they can offer. I'm really not sure if can reverse wire the standard setup or not for the OD OFF system.
My 95 E4OD goes into overdrive at 40 MPH. Sometimes if the tranny goes into a wierd mode, it will shift into OD at 35 MPH, running around 900-1000 RPM. I figure the 351 has enough torque to pull out of that low of an RPM.
