I have a 89 F150 with 302 five speed. When I got it it did not heat in the cab but the engine ran pretty hot. I put a new thermostate in that didnt help anythin but i no its working. So I flushed the fluid and put new stuff in and a new heator core but still no heat. I dont know what to do, the previous owner said he relpaced the radiator and water pump, what should I do. thks
One thing you can check: Make sure the vents are clean. There has been a similar problem with one of my friends trucks. A pen had fallen down into the passager side defroster and made the open/close flap open all the time. Causing only cold air to circulate though the vents. I've also heard of crayons melting into this as well. Makes it really difficult to open and close. You can check this by taking off the blower motor assembly and put a flash light into the opening. You should see the open/close door there.
I know the blower motor works it blows plenty of cold air. When I try to let my truck warm up I let it sit for about 20 min and it reaches the r and m on the heat gauge and then I know the thermostate opens up because the top radiator hose doesnt collapse when you squeese it and it gets hot. The heat guage dosent drop it keeps on going to about L and upove then one of the hoses to the heator core starts to get warm luke warm and thats about it. The truck will run hot and if i shut it off it wont want to start.
Just a quick thought. I fought with poor heat in my '94 for a long time. Last week I finally decided it had to be the after market heater core I had installed. I put an OEM core in, and all my problems went away.
