I took the 4 barrel and intake off of my 390 and replaced it with a 2 barrel manifold and stock rebuilt carb. The choke stove tubes are not there. Does anyone know where I can get replacements? Thanks!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-02 AT 08:21 PM (EST)]If the fitting on the carb (on the choke housing) is still there, you can go to the auto parts store (I know Advance Auto carries them) and get one of two types of kits. One of the kits is for headers (see my gallery for pictures of this setup) and one is intended for the stock manifolds. The header kit clamps on with a hose clamp and the manifold kit has a stud-like thing that you hammer into the stock hole. If the stock hole is filled with the rusted remains of the original tube you have to drill it out. If you are using the stock location the choke is set up to draw in a little exhaust. If you are just drawing in heated air (as in the header kit) you should set the choke a little leaner (I think it's 1 or 2 notches, but the instructions with the kit will tell you). The two brands I've seen are "Help" and "Mr. Gasket". You can order the header kit from Jegs if you can't find it locally.

Hope this helps.

Mark

I found the package for the manifold kit (I only used the header kit, but I bought both). It is made by Motormite under their "HELP!" brand. It is called a Universal Choke Tube Kit and is part number 76850. I found it on a rack when looking for something else. In the store (Advance Auto) there is a whole rack of various "HELP!" accessories like the little plastic window *****, carious caps and other small parts. It has pretty good instructions on the back. If you only have access to locally owned auto shops they will surely know what you are asking for. National chains are iffy, but several have websites and you may be able to find exactly what you want and either order it or print out the description and take it too them. I've done both and had pretty good success.

Motormite's website is: http://www.rbinc.com/ but is was a little slow tonight so I don't know if it will be any help.

74 f100 ranger,

What you planning on doing with that 4bl intake and carb? If you don't have any plans I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

Sorry about that, the products section was not much help anyway. I found the header kit at www.partsamerica.com (Accessories/Hardware/choke part), but they didn't seem to have the kit for manifolds.

Maybe a call or e-mail to the motormite people would be easiest.

Hartmark,
Is that choke tube kit good for any model? Is it like a universal thing? I just wanted to know if it would fit on my 302.
thanks

As far as I know it will fit pretty much anything with a heat riser tube. The kit has a boss that will work with GM motors too. If the manifold kit doesn't work then I'm sure the clamp on kit made for headers would work.
