what are the normal guage readings for the boost, pyro (pre-turbo) and the trans temp. my trans is around 200 my pyro 600-800 and my boost 5-8 on the freeway. also driving around town my boost is almost 0 and my tranny gets around 210 are these readings normal. i just installed my guages yesterday
i have a 2000 F-250 auto with a hypermax chip and stock exhaust
thanks
Those readings are pretty normal. Tranny temp is a little high, but some will say way high and others will say normal, that will depend on preference. Installing and aftermarket cooler and shift kit will help dramatically. Mine went from running in the 200s to running at 150 no load and about 180 heavy towing.
I have late 99 crew cab. It had the stock tranny cooler and I would always see 200 or higher.I went to a 6.0 cooler {about twice the size} and rarely see over 200 even when towing. I also went to a ATS tranny pan {deeper and finned} and syn fluid. The other temps are what I see on mine. I also have a 4" exhaust, same chip as you, cold air intake and Ats turbo housing. Alan
200* seems hot to me for the transmissionin a no load situation, especially if I'm guessing correctly about what the air temperature must be in Wisconsin.
I have to be pulling a trailer in low speed, stop & go traffic in the summer to go over 200.
where did you guys get the trans cooler and it is pretty cold here its in the teens but i was driving it today and it was at 210 then all of the sudden it jumped up to 250 but then started to drop right away. has anyone had this happen it was up a steep hill but i was only doing about 30
I can see how that would happen, the T/C doesn't lock under 40 mph unless you have some modifications, so your t/c is slipping the entire time up the hill. The stock tranny cooler is the smaller one that is to the lower left in the front grill, what you are seeing is the AC Condesor cooler. I go my cooler from the dieselsite. com, you could most certainly check out the sponsors of this site to see what they have, mine is the trucool 4739, if I was to do it again, I'd get the same size cooler, only try to find it in an anodized black.
was it hard to put in the tranny cooler? do you have to get rid of the stock one? so i dont really have to worry about the high temps when going up a hill slowly?
thanks for all your help
No it wasn't hard by any means, maybe time consuming, took a couple of hours. I installed mine in series with the stock cooler, so the atf goes to the stock one first then it goes to the tru-cool and then back to the tranny. I can tell you that it will help with high temps but if you are only going 30 up a 1 mile hill, I don't know if it could keep up with the heat generated there but would certainly help, also a good shift kit will help you out as well. If you do a lot of 30 mph driving, you might be better off gettign a custom tune to lock the t/c at a slower speed, as to eliminate the cause of all the heat generation.
