I also use Hijack this it allows you to view everything that is running.. It also lets you delete them.. Be carefull you don't remove any items that are needed. It comes with experience.. The program allows you to create a Log file.. If you want send it to me and I will take a look and let you know what is safe to delete.. Also another thing that effects speed is the cache(Temporary Internet Files) I have seen this set to 3 Gig and more on some machines. Reset this to 30 Mb , it is all you need.. To reset it got to Tools then Internet Options. Next got to the middle section and select settings. Change whatever number that is there to 30MB. This will help, but Spyware may still be working against you..

Stay away from one called "SPYAXE". It loaded itself into my computer and took it over . I had to go to the "Computer Restore Feature" in my computer to go back to the day before it loaded itself just to make the system fuction. Any site that has to push itself on you is one to stay away from!!! Again...STAY AWAY FROM SPYAXE!!!!!!

I was inundated with spy and ad ware. I was cleansed by spy sweeper. It does cost about 20 bucks, but It's easy to use and very effective. Just remember that some programs cannot be removed by any of these means without opening up in safe mode. Good luck. Life is so much smoother without all that crap!

I have found that Spybot and Ad-aware used together will catch almost everything. One will usually pick up on the stuff the other one misses. It's the best combination I have found yet.

I would like to add that you really need to make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed if you are running an XP machine. I have seen an absolutely dramatic decrease in spyware and just plain ol' crap since installing it.

My setup is SP2+Spybot+Ad-Aware....and it's great!

"that music player." Which music player? One of the neat features of Spybot is to go to the "tools" menu, then click on "startup." For some reason, every software developer wants their program in the startup sequence, and it all sucks memory. Especially problematic are the music download programs (limewire, kazaa, etc) that want to work as a client server. Under no circumstances do you want them loaded at startup, or in server mode. Outside of being bandwidth hogs, there are some serious privacy issues as well.

Same combo I use and they have worked very well. I run Ad-Aware everytime before I shut down my PC and it always catches something.

I use Webroot Spy Sweeper, so far works pretty good. Cleaned up a lot of spyware.

A good forum like this where there are people that volunteer their time to help you get rid of spyware and that...Also other computer issues is http://www.geekstogo.com . Just sign up for it and goto the Malware forumn. Follow the steps and your computer should be fine. If your still having problems, then ask for help in the forumn. Might take a day or two, but someone will help you. Like the others said, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are pretty decent.

Last year I downloaded "Internet Washer", it cleans out all cookies, cache, history, and autocomplete. It's been great and the same company makes "SpySpotter", so I have that too (both cost $30). SpySpotter found 7 cases of spyware on my PC and now it's working great. I click on it once a week and use the washer each day. Knock on wood, all is running great. It was worth it for me because I use my PC for work.

In my opinion, I wouldnt buy any spyware remover. Ad-aware and spybot search and destroy are free and in alot of peoples opinions, the best thing out there. Again, I'd recommend going to geekstogo and goto their malware forumn on how to remove spyware. Their is alot of good tools out there that are free on this website. Plus its good info for other computer questions.
