yup, well not meaning to sound like the dummy that I am I still would like to know what the "M" in 351M means. And Derherr65 did you mean 351 M or really mean 315M. I'm kinda new here and would like to get the right directions
Check the forum guidelines post. No one knows for sure what the M in 351M means. If you go to the parts store and tell them you have a 351 "Modified" they'll probably know what you mean.
The 351 engines have letters after them because they can't be distinguished by dispacement alone. 351w = windsor, 351c = cleveland, 315m = modified. Most of the references I've seen(this site, chilton manuals, npd catalogs etc) refer to it as 351m. You can fairly safely assume that 351m, 351 m, and 351 modified are all the same.
Incidentally the 400 usually is not called a 400m or 400 modified. However if someone calls it that it's still the same engine.
the eng code in your vin number is the 5th letter in the vin on a 1979 but im not sure about an 80 on a 79 if it has the letter h in your vin number the 5th one its a 351 if it has the letter S then its a 6.6 400 but like i said im not sure on the 1980 but thats it for a 1979 it could be the same way in 80 you will just have to check yours and see

On the 80's, according to chilton, e=300, f=302, g=351w, s=400, a=460. Oh, and ron... you're hurting my head. Throw a period in once and a while please.
That's very true, I certainly am a smart ***. No offence was intended, I just wanted to remind you that it's easier to learn from someone when they speak clearly.
