Hey guys
I have a 77 f-150 eith a 400m and i was just wondering if you have to partially lift the engine to install new headers? or if you can do it with out messing with the engine.
thanks
David
Are you sure you want to use headers? They create a lot of heat near the starter so plan to wrap the headers with a heat barrier.
I thought about using them when I rebuild my 400, but the studying I've done revealed that the stock exhaust manifolds breathe very well - at levels very close to header performance. 351M/400 has one of Ford's very best stock exhaust manifolds.
I'll be using the stock setup, except for adding dual pipes and mufflers.
It is a 2 wheel drive. I will probably end up leaving the headers alone unless they have a leak from what MTflat said. But i would still like to know if you have to lift the engine to replace them.
thanks
David
