I have a 1997 F350 4 X 4 and I had my right front hub get hotter than hell the other night and started making noise. I have the automatic hubs and I'm going to replace them with some Warns when I get in there. Can anyone tell me how difficult the job is going to be?
Don't know about a 97 but did my 2001 , was very simple took me about 20mins or so for both sides not included blocking the vac lines,never did them before and the old hubs came right out by hand no banging. if that helps at all gl
i replaced the auto hubs on my 1995 f-350 after grenading one while off-roading, put the warn manual hubs, did it real quick, no problems, wish i would have replaced them earlier instead of having to have someone get me unstuck after my auto hub went out, now just wondering how well my electronic 4 wheel on my 2004 will hold up, anyone ever had any problems yet?
also, are you sure its the hub? my drivers side wheel bearing went after some heavy watery mudding and me neglecting to clean and grease things again, costs 800 dollars because it did alot of damage while it went out doing 75 mph, and there was plenty of signs it going out, hot hub, front tire making noise, etc... check it out soon!
Aside from getting hot, are your hubs engaging and disengaging correctly? I recently replaced the auto hubs on my 97 F-250 crewcab (128,000 miles) because the left hub would not disengage. It didn't get hot though. I found the Warn manual hubs to be very strong, and easy to install. I agree with bf250, the heat may be coming from a bad bearing.
Found out the bearing was toast. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the rotor off so I can replace the bearings. Everything looks OK but the bearing seems stuck to the axle shaft. Any ideas on how to get this off?
