Greetings everyone! Hope you can help. I have a 96 eddie bauer bronco with a 351. When I try to start it will turnover but won't idle, unless you give it half throttle. Once the engine is warm it will idle but until then you are sitting there with your foot in it. I've tried, the mechanics tried, but we can't figure out why. The codes say its running lean but you can plainly see its running rich. We've replaced the plugs, wires, distributor, the starter. Its a NAM title so I figure its got in reality 80 to 90 thousand miles, not the 205 that the odometer really says. It's especially bad in the cold and wet and last nite it refused to idle at all. Now we've got a check engine light on and it will not idle at all this morning. Anybody got any ideas?
Check and make sure there are no vaccum leaks. Also check all your sensors as well too. What if your fuel pressure like? all the stuff that i can think of are IAC (idle air control valve) you can test it witha 9 volt battery, take it off and put the wires from the battery to the sensor terminal. if it works when you touch the battery you should here a pop that is the plunger moving in and out. also make sure the MAF, and MAP sensor are good to go. you can also remove you throttle body and clean that out. it sounds to me like you got a vaccuum leak. are you throwing any codes at all? again like someone else said TPS(throttle position sensor) make sure your EGR valve isnt stuck open.
Oh yeah when is the last time you checked your timing? i cant think of anything else right now
Hey everyone! Thanks for the help! It was the idle air control and after a good cleaning it runs like a top again! Just in time for the next snow/ice storm! My Bronco can save the day again!
