Hi,
Have any of you installed 5-piece cab mount running light kit on your Ex. I am kind of into lights, but I am not shure about what I have to do to get it right.
How much of the interior has to be removed, and where to connect the wires.
The kits that I´ve seen draws only 3.5 amps. Is the circuit for the interior dome lights big enough to take on this extra load, or do I have to rout the wires all the way down under the steering wheel?
Any first hand experience will be much appreciated.
Someone posted about this exact topic in the superduty section like a week ago. You can buy a harness from Ford that plugs in in the passenger side footwell. Then you have to pull off the interior panels going up to the roof and drill holes and seal it up. He had a pretty good write up with pictures that he linked to..

Found it, all the info I need, thanks.

Lars,
I just read your post from last month. Did you try to install the ford factory clearance lights? I'm in the process, I installed the lights and the harness; everything went well but it has a plug end that won't fit the module for my Trip computer. The lights won't light up and I am wondering if I have the wrong harness. I tried to order the Ex with cleanance lights from the factory, but they wouldn't allow that option.
Crewsr,
No I didn´t do any install. I was told that I would get a 200 dollar fine, if driving with cab clearance lights. In Norway there are so many stupid regulations, that I´m going cracy. Please do not try to understand, I dont.
jake00,
Well, they do not allow vehicles to be registred with functional cab lights. So when the vehicle is imported to the country, and the cab lights are OE, they must either be removed, or have the lenses painted. So claiming they are OE, does not help much. I could give you a hundred more examples of similar regulations made in the same greenhouse, but I won´t, it will only destroy my weekend thinking of it.
And the makers of all of this regulations, are even elected by the people. Well, they did not, and never will, get my vote.
Have a nice weekend, and drive safely. In my part of the world, we have 4 feet of snow, and the same wonderful elected eggplants do not spend much money on snowplows, so I just say GO-GO V10 4x4.
The post Spooner referred to was a good one. It was great for reference material. My son and I installed the factory lights in his '91 Super duty first and it went well... Took us about an hour and a half from start to finish. Then we moved on to mine (a 2005 XLT Excursion) installation of the lights and removal of the harness went great, but I neglected to compare the harnesses closely or I'd have noticed the different plug for the trip computer. Live and learn... Needless to say I'm planning a trip to the dealer to see what my options are from here. The lights look great even though they don't light up yet.
