as you all probably know by now, i recently bought an 85 f250, and i'm going to put 44's on it. i was wondering what gears i will need? it has a 302 in it, so ther's not much power, i'm going to do alot of bolt on's, cams/carb/headers/ingition/etc... the track i'll be running at can't be but maybe 1/8 mile. it will not be driven more then a couple miles at a time on the street, so i'm not concerned with streetability, just getting down the track fast as possible.thanks!!!!
going with 5.13 would be equivilant gearing to running 3.73 with 32" tires, and 5.38 gears would be equivilant to running 3.91 with 32" tires niether of which is a real low gear I wouldn't go any higher gears than the 5.38, and more like 5.50s or something close if you can get them for the axles you have (no you can't get them for a D44HD)
i'm leaning towards findong a d60 front, where is a good place, and how much do they run? i have two d44, or d50's whatever they are. is there any place to sell them?
Check ebay and your local junk yard. They'll run $1000-$1500 for a used axle. If you want a new one try Dynatrac. They'll charge about $6K for one of theirs.
