My '79 F250 has a 400 with the smog nonsense. Other than the obvious emissions violation, what are the downsides to running without this extra stuff hanging off my engine? One of the fittings on the smog pump has disintegrated, and I can't find a replacement. I haven't tried that hard to find one, because I suspect the 400 might run better without it. Thoughts?
Just between you, me, and the 40 million people on this site, I had planned on eliminating the cat anyway. My exhaust system has more holes than the Warren Report on JFK. I see flame between the block & the driver's side manifold, and there is no contact between either manifold & the collection pipe. The cat converter is pretty much an afterthought..... No inspections help that.....
well i am in a no emmission situation but i believe a high flow cat or 2 won't even be noticed
the old ones are very restrictive tho
but i have no plans to add one to my pre-emmission 1963 cause it never was there the crankcase vent consists of a press in 90* steel pipe pointed at the pavement, this however i cant leave there, its really not right
