My best tip is soak them with a good penetrating spray a couple times (days) before and while trying to remove them. The first time is always the tough one.
I usually use the cheap plastic tools and have good luck, just keep working them.
It seems to me that most of the hang up is not the spring but the o-ring/seal sticking to the filter.
Well Seth - youre head is going to explode when I tell you this but I believe the Chevy's have the same style fitting on their fuel filters.
I can't believe this. A guy wants to sell his truck because he can't figure out how to remove the fuel filter. Then gets bent becasue he goes to the dealre and they won't tell him ho3w to do something they get paid to do?? Unbelievable.
I can't say I don't agree with his frustration when the dealer won't help but if they were considerate enough to tell him how to remove his fuel filter, he might consider taking it to the dealer for a valve job, brake job, etc. instead of boycotting them because they're worried about giving up any precious secrets. Or maybe the dealer simply doesn't KNOW what's he's talking about until they open up their service manual.
Regardless, there's a reason they call them 'stealers' (IMHO)
Poor Seth... he is being mauled!!!
I used to own a chevy... and I have owned nothing but Fords since.
Seth,
You need to go pickup a Haynes manual (or any manual for that matter) and try to figure out what you need to do to fix the issue. If you cant fix it, then come here and ask. But dont tell us that we are not helping and then tell us that you are going to buy a chevy... you are looking at not getting many more replies to your questions in the future.
I have posted many topics to this site and have always gotten the answer. as a matter of fact, this site just helped me with replacing the gaskets on my 85 2.8 ranger. Stay with ford and work out the issues.... but if you are in Virginia drop me a line on how much you want for your truck, so I can fix it and keep it!!
yes yes i love this! chevy bashing, gm bashing, loving it! get this, '91 cadillac fleetwood, have to tilt the engine to even get at the other four spark-plugs,dealer had to do it. rip-off. $27,000 for a grand-prix. whole rear axle assembly, recall brakes, shut off while driving, bad battery. all before warranty was up thank goodness. that was the last gm i owned, traded it for a new 2000 ranger that i still have with 85,000 miles. hey where did seth go hahahahahah lol! oh by the way i used a screw driver and got the clips off. took me about a half hour including finding out the hard way about relieving the pressure. love the taste of gas!

Well this makes me wonder what the most repair friendly vehicle is? My friend had an older fullsize dodge pickup with a straight six. At 14 yr old I could actually stand inside the engine bay with the motor IIRC, now that's some room to work with.

my first car was a 1976 buick electra, blue, white pin stripe, fender skirts, buick rallies with white walls, two door coupe, quarter top, and 455ci motor. and don't forget, a back seat like no other. when i got it from my parents it needed a master cylinder, tires, brake lines, water pump, hoses and belts, exhaust, wiper motor, on and on. i did it all myself at 16 yrs. old. i couldn't quite fit inside the bay but i've never had so much room to do all that stuff. ahh the good ole days!
amazing. when I was growing up my Dad and Grand Dad kept buying
GM cars and one after the another the paint would just fall off.
I avoid GM.
