Well my radiator has yet again decided to leak. Right where the rubber gasket meets the metal (you know the two plastic wings held on by bent tabs on each end of the 4.0 radiators). It's bitterly cold here, and I really don't want to pull it and replace it (that would make 3 radiators in 5 years). Is there a coolant leak stopper that any of you have tried with success? All that I have tried just gum up the system and cause clogs.
Go to your local GM dealer and ask for sealing tabs. They do not gum up the coolant system and all GM vehicles come with those in the cooling system. They are 200x better than the gunk you get at the parts store.
Now I don't guarentee that they will work with that type of leak. Depending on how bad it is. Are you putting in the radiators? Or is someone else?
You might want to looik at getting a solid aluminum aftermarket radiator without the plastic side tanks.
Another idea is to use some JB Weld on the seam and see if that stops the leak.
I do pretty much all the work to this van. I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced all alum/steel radiator before. I will look into that. First I am going to try the tabs. It is just a matter of the gasket contracting in the cold weather and thus leaking, I am just sick and tired of it happening almost every winter.
