if you havent gone to the dealer yet for your repair, you need to. 2000 model F-150's and Expeditions and some 2001 crew cabs built at kansas plant---you need to go and get the proper repair done....you only have 6 days
i got a postcard the otherday saying the replacment parts wouldnt be ready until Feb. And all it is is a fuseable link w/a little bit of wire harness...cant be that hard to manufacture....i just unplugged my switch at the master cyl. Already had one house fire, dont need another.....paul
if you have a 2000 model you need to get the repair done. the switch will no longer be replaced on the 2000 models after december 15. the jumper harness will be used...and it is one ugly creature....simple, but very ugly.
My dealer here said that the parts won't be here until mid-december. I am on the contact list with them once they arrive, so for now I just have it unplugged from the master cylinder.
the jumper harnesses are actually in now, but in small quantities. my dealer just got about 50 or so in last week. as far as i tell, it seems to be first come first serve....had one today that had not been even been deactivated yet, but we installed the jumper anyway. my main point was to warn the original group affected by the recall...2000 f150 and expedition. the 15th is the last day of replacing the actual deactivator switch (which is the whole problem), the 16th--everyone gets the jumper harness( ie. the band-aid)

I got my recall notice back in October.I took it to my local Ford dealer and they unplugged the switch.Last week I got a notice saying the part will not be in until Feb.
I never got a letter, I called dealer with VIN and took it in the next day on my 2000 F-150. Got the new harness and no prob. waited about 20 minutes while they pulled her around. That was in like July.
i told you guys the patch was ugly....i only hope all of you with the 2000 models went and got your switch and jumper . the problem with this recall is what parts are being 'serviced'. the problem with the truck is that the switches eventually leak brake fluid---this leads to shorting the switch out and causing the official "overheating of the harness". its not the ugly harness, but rather the lack of a switch(the cause) that you guys need to looking at. owners of 2000 models were promised switches, now the blame for the recall is placed on "overheating of the harness", so now you get a fused harness---and when the switch starts leaking and the harness goes POOF its your responsibility to repair the problem. sorry to beat a dead horse, but i think that there are too many people out there that dont understand that they are getting the short end of the stick here.
replacing the switch is about as easy as it gets. just unscrew it from the master cylinder and install the new one. but prior to installation drip a drop or two of brake fluid into the threaded end of the switch....no bleeding is necessary.
I got my letter today from my dealer saying that they has a few (about 2% of what they needed) and that since I had them unhook mine, that I was eligable to have my new harness installed. I go Thursday morning I finally get my cruise back !!
First of all thanks to all for giving the heads-up that the dealerships have the harness in. I called this morning and they had 2 left, so drove in an hour and had it installed. It was mentioned in this thread that if it was done before the 16th, we would get a new switch, which is the problem, then after that it would be the harness with a fuse. Well, today is the 15th and they only would put in the harness. But, maybe they will only replace the switch if it is bad and/or a 2000 model. I don't know... I might have misunderstood what was being said too. None the less thanks for posting that they are available now. I am back cruising down the road!
