Locking / unlocking front hubs

I've begun to notice that the passenger side frount hub is somewhat difficult to lcok/unlock at times...the other one turns pretty easy...but I had to use a wrench to turn the passenger side today....Is this a lubrication issue? Would buying a new set of hubs fix it? What exactly is causing it to turn so tough?

when was the last time you removed the entire assembly and greased the bearings?

Easy enough, depends on how deep you want to go. If it's just to clean the locks you don't have to lift anything off the ground. If you decide to repack the bearings, the spindle-nut socket is worth the extra couple $$.

It's pretty common for the locks to be a little stiff on occasion. Next time it's hard to turn, rotate that wheel a little and see what happens.

Sorry to take so long responding, still trying to get the current semester over with.

Remove the capscrews around the circumference of the cover and remove as an assembly. After you get it out, disassemble and wipe clean. Give it a LIGHT coat of grease before re-assembly. The clutch assembly is held in by one or two lock rings: One around the inside of the hub, another on the axle shaft. If it doesn't slide out, run a couple of the capscrews in to use as handles and pull. Once again, wipe everything down and give it a light coat of grease before re-assembly.

If you want to grease the bearings, you're not far from having that done. The only difference from any other car is a few extra washers and a unique spindle nut.

Feel free to call if you have any more questions. I have to go out of state this weekend though. Mike

When I replaced my stock hubs with aftermarket, I think I remember the instructions saying that you dont want to put grease into the cap. Just a light coat on the spline/locking assembly. Old grease gets sticky and stiff.
