Hellllp! I have never had any problems with the charging sytem before but now...I changed the alternator as a little p.m. then everything went to *&^*(^*^! I have since changed the battery and regulator. Still not charging. I may have had a brain fart and hooked it up wrong, though I don't think so. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or directions for hooking it up? It is a 72 390. The only thing that I thought was odd is that there is no wire hooked up to the A post on the alternator. The field wire is going to the regulator, the ground is to the neg battery cable and the the battery wire is going to the solenoid I believe. The wiring harness that plugs into the regulator has a pigtail coming off of the A post. One goes to solenoid, but there is an empty female connector with nothing in it... never has as long as I have owned the truck. Does this sound right? Thanks for any and all help guys!
From your regulator: F goes to field on alternator.
S goes stator on alternator.
A goes to starter relay
I goes to charge indicator light-not used with ammeter
If you do not have a good clean connection on your field wire the system will not charge.
Don't discount the notion that you have a defective alternator. Many have purchased new AutoZone and other discount auto parts alternators that were defective. There are some simple tests you can perform while it is in the truck or just take it back and have them test it for you. Good luck and let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have tomorrow off and will be checking the routing of the wires, the connections and the grounds. I'll let you know how it goes!

Well I found the culprit. The new regulator that I bought was no good. I took it down to the parts store and they tested it and said it was good. I was not convinced, so I changed it anyway and that was it. Thanks for the help guys.
