Safety Glasses

Ok when it comes to wearing Safety glasses I cant stand it, when I put them on I can wear them for a while but then my eyes start to hurt and then comes the headache, I have to wear them everyday because of work and I keep getting yelled at because I dont put them on. I even got in trouble in school for not wearing them because of the same reason. I have tried all kinds of glasses but they all make my eyes hurt. Do any of you have this problem? Do you think I should see about prescription safety glasses? Thanks

are you using the cheapo safety glasses that most places offer? if so look at the better quality ones,or shooting glasses with impact resistant lenses...I got a pair of those from a gun shop,it cost me $25.00,but I wear them at the range as well as when needed for my dremel,my recipro saw and where needed....

Do you wear prescription glasses to begin with??

Do a google and look up "corneal rust ring"........then think about working around any kind of metal where there maybe shavings or small particles flying around.

I dont wear regular glasses. I work in a fiberglass place that makes semi parts, and yes the glasses are the elcheapo ones. Does anyone recommend any good ones that are clear lenses?

We had a guy in our shop that refused to wear his safety glasses. (Safety Glass area!) Nope. . . it wasn't me.

He splashed some press cleaning chemicals into his eyes and almost LOST them.

We finally found some decent safety glasses and he then wore them, without fail, after that. (He didn't want to lose his job, either.)

My company has a Safety Eyeglass policy. IF you wear prescription eyeglasses, you are entitled to a FREE pair of prescription safety glasses (one pair) every two years. (If your prescription changes in 1 year, they will replace the lenses free, but, you have to keep the same frames.)
Pretty sweet deal. We can get decent frames, too. Some of the frames are 'premium' frames, but, we get them at a substantially reduced rate.

Yes, I wear glasses. Free is good. Free is your friend.

EDIT: Daggone!!!! I just noticed!!! 1,000 posts!!! FTE is a GREAT place!!!

Definitely need to find something that will work, I have had enough different eye injuries that I push them to keep others from having to deal with what I do. I had two welding jobs, one full time, one part time, at the same time. The full time required safety glasses if you were in the shop, period, no matter what. The part time did not, but I didn't feel comfortable without them, after being at the full time job with them. I was blowing off all the slag chippings one day, and a guy walked right by, no glasses, blew the crap right into his eyes. But it may be the curvature that is bothering you, I had issues with that at first with some of the glasses. Basic prescription may possibly be an answer as well.

Safety Glasses

I can personally attest what a pleasure it is getting a pieces of cast iron removed from my eye- wonderful experience. I wear prescription eyeglasses & there are glasses that will accomodate them with no discomfort. I work in a "wet" area (semiconductor mfg) and you would have to be a fool not to wear them. Just a few days got a facefull of Sodium Hydroxide (think draino) & probably would have had severe damage. We use the UVEX brand I don't even realize I am wearing them anymore. Saved my a$$ more than a few times.

Good luck,

Jeff

Safty glasses dont bother me. I actualy have a pair for sunglasses. Best ones I found that are as good as shooting glasses are from the local sthil store. Brightens up the world but not like your going to be blinded. When you take them off it's like the world got a little darker and love the camo frames.

I have a pair of Remington glasses that I like very well. Before the cheap glasses would end up fogging up and getting scratched up and giving me headaches and began to be more of a hazard than no glasses at all. These Remingtons cost a bit more ($25) but dosent fog, darkens in light and lightens up at night making them ideal for day or night work. The lenses are impact resistant and dosent scratch. I think they are shooting glasses as stated by ilbigmike, but they are ANSI Z87.1 certified and thats all that matters.

Try safety glasses that have the yellow lens. My supervisor wears them. He says he got headaches when he wore the clear ones. Something to do with the lighting.

Correction on this. I looked at the glasses when I went to smoothie king a few minutes ago and noticed that they are Smith and Wesson not Remington.

I've been buying some better quality clear plastic safety glasses at NAPA auto parts lately. I look through them and move them around, if the veiw through them moves and distorts, I try another brand. If I get distorted ones, I get headaches very quickly.

I too can attest to how much fun it is to get a metal sliver in your eye and have it rust there. They pull it out and have to grind on the eyeball to remove the rust...it's really not fun at all and I don't recommend it...!

The only safety glasses I can stand are the "rimless" ones. You put on a brand new pair and you won't even realize you're wearing them. I don't think they're very expensive either, but I don't know who makes them.
