i have a 1998 f-350 with the 7.3,it is a utility body and my assigned work truck, yesterday befor the snow hit i almost ran out of fuel, since i didnt have my wallet i dropped 1/2 a tank of off road fuel in her...i ran her almost a hundred miles and actually got better fuel milage,...we had snow last night....this morning i went to start her she fired right up(not plugged in)she idled fine,as i started to sweep snow off i hit the wipers and the motor shut off....i cannot get her started....i added an additive to the fuel thinking that the lines gelled up....i also plugged her in.....i tried either....she does not start....sounds like she wants to....when i spray either she turns over quickly....but no start.....can somebody help me....i can lose my job if they find out i put red fuel in her....i dont want to have to call the shop....thanks...
i doubt very much that the red fuel hurt the engine. thats just a dye to indicate house or off road use. Sure sounds like gelled fuel to me ... get a new filter and try that . also, Watch the tach while cranking, if it does not move, its the cps and probably needs to be replaced. (most common problem of the psd) good luck and keep warm. saturday is to be warmer day for messing with the outside scooter.
Have you checked the fuses in the fuse box under the hood? Especially #22, fuel heater fuse. Red fuel (off road) will not hurt the engine. It's just diesel fuel dyed red because no road taxes were paid on it. I would not use ether to aide starting the engine. Enough of that will damage the engine. Try draining the fuel filter canister and filling it with PowerService DieselKleen, available at Walmart. White bottle has anti-gelling additives in it. Also add some to the fuel tank(s).
1998 f350??? I thought there were no Ford 7.3 diesel trucks designated model year 1998. It was a change over year in manufacturing.
edit: No tach while cranking is classic bad CPS senor. Slow typer too. LOL

guess its a 99...i did add gell stuff to the tank....when i pulled the filter the fuel was warm....could the lines between be froze?and im going out to check #22 now....thanks
OK...TRUCK IS STILL NOT RUNNING....i changed all fuel and flushed fuel lines, changed filter, check glow plugs etc... what else could it be....like i said the truck just shut off....all fuses are good....please help
Sounds like you need to call the boss. It's not your truck and all you did was turn on the wipers.
Can't say I agree with you putting red fuel in without the owner's consent, I understand your being worried about it.
However..... honesty always pays good in the end. You'll most likely keep your job if you tell him. Yeah you'll get some carpet time.
already did that....have replacement truck...but for the last 2 days the mechs have been in my drive way trying to figure out why it wont start....just thought i could lend them a hand......im sure they dont go on the ford forums....(the rest of the fleet is chevy duramax)
i started to sweep snow off i hit the wipers and the motor shut off....i cannot get her started....
hmmmm maybe a blown fuse not allowing it to start......check in the cab and under the hood fuse boxes.. if the new trucks have 2 not sure????
dont worry about the red fuel.... its fine.. been runing it in florida for a while its all they are selling to us. (da^ hurricanes) unless it had a lot of water in it?
