My wife has my 95 PSD at work and it won't start. It's cold, really cold and I already know that the glow plug system isn't working properly. She's had it plugged in for a couple of hours now and it still won't start. I'm guessing that the batteries are getting too weak to fire it up by now. Planning on jumping it when I can get there but this got me to thinking(I know, it's a dangerous thing). A co-workers husband came by and did a quick try to start it. He mentioned that there wasn't the usual "click" that you hear when the glow plug relay activates. Is there a fuse that I should/could check for the gpr? My plan is to jump the batteries after I try to jump the gpr. Any other suggestions?
jump batteries first, if bats are too low then the idm wont have enough voltage to "fire" the injectors. Is the tach moving while cranking? If not the cps may be the problem.
Thanks lukecline, good to know that about the idm, hadn't thought of that either. The tach is moving so the cps is fine (except I probably just jinxed it after saying that). Good call to cookie also, Thanks. I haven't had a chance to check the fuse but it is back up and running. Had to run a heater under it for a few hours and she finally fired up. Plugged her in after running up to the truck stop, topping the tanks and adding some Lucas additive. The two truckers that were having coffee said it was the best for anti-gelling. Picked up some Diesel 911 while I was there, they said it was a "must have" if the whole system freezes. Hopefully the temps won't be this cold again for a while so I won't need it but the peace of mind is priceless.
Anyways, figured I should update this so ya get the rest of the story. Thanks to all!
