The passenger door on my 78 F-150 got would not shut unless you slammed the door real hard. While getting an stimate for a paint job the shop owner adjusted the door striker for me. Now it shuts easily, but the door is too loose and it rattles. Does it take a special tool to adjust the striker and how do you do it? Would you screw the striker in (or out) in order to tighten the door?
On my '77 the only tool required is a Torx bit - Can't remember the size but I think it's about a T-40. Torx bits are available anywhere from Sears to Advance Auto and a decent set shouldn't set you back much at all.
To adjust the door loosen the striker (Torx bit in the middle - turn CCW like any bolt), tweak it inwards a bit, snug it up, try the door, and repeat until you've got it just the way you want it.
While you're at it take some WD-40 or White Lithium and lube the latch in the door as well.
