please, I need some help with spark issues

I'm new to this site, I hope I am posting my question in the correct arena. I own a 87' Big Bronco. The other day it started blowing black smoke, so i changed plugs, wires, rotor and dist. cap, coil, and idle sensor, because the idle was fluxuating up and down. Now the truck will not start at all. It turns over fine. However, when I checked the spark from the coil, there is Very little spark to be seen, just a small blue flicker. Can anyone advise me? I am lost. Thanks, Scott in TX

Welcome to the site !

I can help by letting you know that this post could be moved to the Big Bronco Tech Forum, unless of course you change it to an Personal *Introduction* ?

Just click edit and change it

Have you checked your ignition module? pull the coil plug ontop of the rotor, crank the motor to see if you are getting a spark. The other thing is that you may have have a broken wire going to the ignition module. You can remove the module and take it to Autozone or whatever auto store is near you and see if they can test it ofr you.

I hope this helps.

the ignition module is located on the distributor itself. You will need a special tool in order to remove it. You may also have to loosen the distributor enough so you can get to the screws holding the ignition module to the distributor. If it turns out that you module is fine, check your coild wires to make sure they are not cracked. You may also want to check ALL your wiring in the engine compartment for any cracked or brittle wires. Just out of curiosity... Have you checked the rotor under the distributor cap?

Hi Jason
I have replaced the rotor along with the dist.cap, new wires, plugs, new coil and idle air sensor because the idle was going up and down. Yesterday morning the battery was dead, so I went to auto zone. Found out it was shot, brought a new one home, and had my wife turn it over for me while I checked for spark. 1st check; coil, now I have a Very strong spark! 2nd check; dist.cap, as soon as the wife tried to turn the engine over, there was a pop sound and no turning over. The pop came from the new battery, which is now bad. So maybe this problem I am having is actually caused by a grounded wire? What do you think? 2 weeks ago, I had the tranny and transfer case rebuilt, would there be a wire in that area to look for? Or do you feel it is a part that has fused together? I dunno, I really appreciate your patience with me, I certainly am learning alot. Thanks......Scott

Ok, I got my battery issue solved. Now another problem. I have replaced the Ignition module, thanks for letting me know of the tool I need, worked well. However, the engine still will not start. Has spark to the plugs. when I spray starting fluid into the intake, it will run, until I stop spraying. I removed the gas line, past the filter, and when I crank the motor, gas flows out. Now what should I do? Thanks....Scott
