I've got an opportunity to pick up two 1978 trucks for pretty cheap and one of them has a running 460, it's bone stock, but it goes. Just wondering what the 460 would be worth.
It's also go the c6 too. after posting I got a hairbrained idea about putting the 460 in a 58 Edsel 9 passenger wagon......since I have one and all. hahaha
It's a long way from running though.
My area prices are pretty close to Frederic's. When I pulled my backup 460 and C6 (complete with everything but the carb) it cost me $200 total. In the local paper they'll sell for $300-$500 if they're running.
i got my 460 and its C6 out of a 78 F-250 at a salvage yard, they told me it was rebuilt just before a train ate the bed of the truck off...i didnt beleive it was rebuilt cause it was so dirty and stock looking (but just found out not long ago that they werent lying, i could tell by the number .30 stamped on the pistons!!) anyways, i picked the engine and tranny up for $460 with all the accessories on it, including the mount towers and enough exhaust to weld up to my existing pipes.......so why are you taking it out of the truck?? that 460 is, IMO, the best truck engine around as far as pulling power, reliability and running smooth....id say keep it for SOMETHING anyways!!
well if it runs good keep it cause ya never know what ya might finda to put it in but i would have to say the motor is worth more to keep look at it this way if ya sell it and lets say a few months from now you find an old car or truck that needs a motor you would have to buy one and good luck finding a good running ran when i last parked it and it was rebuilt like 500 miles ago motor cause most likly it will be junk well if ya have luck like me
