Anyone ever notice how terribly bland the interior of early 60's GM trucks are compared to Ford? Ford had chrome, bright colors, and other nice touches. GM all had bland brownish metal insides, even the GM version of the custom cab. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm just slanted toward for Fords.. They have aged much better..
I usually don't participate in the Ford vs. GM discusions but this one hits home. I own a '70 Ch**y, I have to agree that it's dashboard is not the greatest. The way it's designed leaves one gauge hole with no gauge for who know's what. And because there was an optional tach, the people who don't have one, have to look at a blank hole just above the steering column. The ash tray is barely big enough for a handful of quarters. Then there is the glove box door, it is the same size and shape as the instrument panel so of course it's HUGE. The only thing I do like is that they used mechanical oil pressure gauges. Just don't get me started on the coil spring-trailing arm rear suspension!!
as much as i love fords my dad had a 68 chevy with the blank hole above the steering coulum except it wasnt blank it had a actually factory tach a option not even available on any for till what 1980 ?????? only truck i ever saw with that tach too

OK,then i will!!
There was a kid in high school that had a 72 3/4 2wd Chevy with 350 4spd.He always hotrodded it around like it wa something.oNe day in the parking lot after school he was burnin the tires and tryin to show off and on about the third time he rapped it up as tight as it would turn and dumped the clutch, the result?,
the rusty trailing arms bent up when the rear end flexed,it was so bad that the coil springs popped out and was rolling down the lot and the the wheel whells landed right on the tires!!
You aint never seen anything that funny.Swear on the bible on this
Yeah, the dashes were ugly in those trucks, and just loved that great big long auto coloum shifter,i thought those were ugly as sin!
Ya know Fords rust to but at least Ford gave you a rocker to step on when the floors get rusty
Only with a CHevy does the owner say"when you get in,hop clear up inside, dont step on anything"
To me the prettiest dashes ever on a truck were the padded 65-66 dashes.Love 'um.

Strangest thing...I was just talking trucks with my dad tonight and he happened to mention that Chevy had a coil sprung rear end back in the 60s. Had a hard time believing that one.
The trailing arms on mine are rusty as hell, one of the previous owners welded patches on them. The entire back half of the frame is almost rusted to nothing. I had to weld in a patch on the end of the frame just to bolt on the bumper. Some dink replaced the floor in the cab with pop riveted stainless, the only part of the floor thats original is the lump for the trans. The floor sits like fives inches higher than factory, I had to put in some crappy 60/40 seats from a car just to get head room. I've been looking for a 4x4 frame and a rust free cab to get a few more years out of it.
Seems to me the more recent Ch**y trucks (90s?) have an extremely ugly dash with a huge rectangular box sticking out from the dash to house all the gauges. It looks like an afterthought. Never knew they had coil springs on the back of 60s chevy trucks. You'd think that thing would wallow like a pig when it gets a load in it.
Just think, the 67-72 Chevy CST package with the buckets was their answer to Ford's idea with the 65-66 Ranger package. Does anyone realize that Dodge actually started the light truck-bucket thing with their '64s? They had car-type buckets with a fold down armrest seat that was used with various upholstery thru the '71s as an option.
Hey guys I spent alot of years with my 67 chevy cst (couldn't afford a ford) that empty gauge hole wasn't empty on mine it was a vucumn gauge also had the factory tach still had a hand choke in 67 though and I must have replaced those trailing arms 6 or 7 times kept rotting or cracking where the u-bolts went through. went through 3 engines 2 three speed trannies and 2 automatics 3 rears and god only knows how many center bearings in the driveshaft I was actually going to go look for the guy who designed that.LOL gave me lots of wrenchin practice though had it for 16 years then went to a 84 f150 and now to the 86 f250 4x4diesel lariat John
Speakin of packages.Dodge might as well had the first Sport truck!
They had a truck in 70-72?,that you could order called the DUDE.
Yeah!It could be ordered with MoPars high impact colors.
Ugly as sin,but it dont matter now.Key word=Collectibility

1970 f250 4x4
I had one of those BRAT's!! I have to say It was pretty fun to drive as far as four banger jap trash goes. It had the seats in the back, t-tops, brushguard w/winch,4spd-4wheel drive(Hi/Lo), and the roll bar(all factory options). I don't think I'll ever buy another one again. I must of replaced everything atleast twice and when I finally thought it was good the thing falls apart due to all the rust.
