emissions dictated timing individually for each vehicle...the sticker on the valve cover should tell you. however for a basic guess I'd have to say 12 degrees back
That about what I was thinking, but I have custom valve covers, engine compartment etc. and no longer have any stickers/labels in the engine compartment.
I just looked at the sticker on the valve cover of my 351M and it states 6 degrees BTDC, that seems a little too advanced to me, but that is what it says. Does the manual or automatic trans change anything?
maybe it does. but the emissions crap sure does. too tired and cold to go outside right now to look on mine. Maybe tomorrow I will if noone else has provided an answer.
my 78 bronco has a 351m w/c6 6 degrees btdc My 78 351m w/man. says 10 degrees btdc. both of these have emissions. my 78 non emissions 351m w/man. says 14 btdc. neither of my 400's have stickers on them.
Well, if I remember right, they didn't change much of anything on the engine from 77-78. So I think I will go with 10 degrees BTDC since I have a manual trans. And then adjust 2 degrees for a mild cam and HEI distibutor. Thanks for all the info guys. I love this site!
