Most likely nothing that you will feel in the butt-o-meter. Your EGT's will drop a little, and anytime you remove a restriction like that you gain a bit of effiency.
Just finished gutting mine, haven't driven it yet though.I couldn't believe they would put something so resrictive right at the outlet of the turbo. It's got to help some to get it out of there.
is it realy that restritive?? it turns sideways when its open.. Layne you noticed 50* cooler while towing?? thats a lot!! if you gut it you cant use it as a break.. a big bonus !!J
Did'nt notice much difference on regular driving... but towing I seem to run about 50 deg cooler. It never would close right so I couldn't use it as a exhaust brake. I'm curious how much they can really do as a brake...........
Yeah it works good for me too as an exhaust brake if 2500 rpm. Without it I have to really ride the brake pedal down a mountain pass to keep from going too fast. Using it changes it to an occational gentle touch of the pedal to control the speed.
Mine didn't even open straight all the way! From what I've read it's bad to have something that disrupts the nat. swirl as exhaust exits turbo.Said exh. brakes should be down stream 3-4 ft.
Do any of you guys have pics of how you gutted the valve, I would like to do this to my 97. Thanks Jeff

I've read a few post from people that have removed the EBPV, but did not remove the actuator rod and then developed oil leaks around the actuator rod. I beleive I read somewhere to remove the rod from the cylinder and drill/tap a plug fitting into the end of the cylinder. I don't know if I'd remove the turbo just to do this mod. If I had to take the turbo out for some other reason, I'd consider it. Just my .02
I heard about oil leak probs from rod being loose, bouncing around. When I did mine I used dowel to seal holes and welded the arm to bottom piece of dowel. Now the rod can attach to arm just like it was.I'm think'in this will hold it steady and prevent leaks. If I could figure out the picture thing I'd put one up here.
