96 f250 crew 4x4 460 4inch lift 35s. i would like to put a dana 60 under the front and a shackle reversal kit to get about three more inches of lift. my problem is i dont know if 37s will rub the front leaf springs. my 35s have about two to three inches of space between the tire and spring when the wheel is turned all the way. anyone have bigger tires on there 250 or 350. will 37 fit or did u have to make any mods. if some one would let me know before i go taking things apart. its my every day toy so i have a time limit on how long its o.o.s.. thanks.
I just sold a set of 38.5" Swampers to a guy with a 95 F350 with a 6" lift on it. The outer lugs just barely rubbed his leaf springs. He could have turned the steering stops out a bit to cure this but he didn't want to sacrifice his turning radius so he trimmed about 1/4" off those inner lugs. Most tires won't stick out as far as the lugs on a Swamper. What he did have to trim was the corner off his front bumper, just a little so it would clear.
I'm going to have this moved to the offroad forum of FTE. I think you'll get more help there.
you can fit 37's as your truck sits provide you do as KO and ivan mentioned about the bumper. I can fit 44's on my 80 with 6" and fender trim no problems.
thanks guys for your imput. i was told the 60 will lift the front end a little. if i can get 2 inches out of the axle swap, i will leave it at that. i had to trim the bumper with 4 inches and the 35. i just got a winch bumper made that will cure any further bumper problems. i have a 60 for 100 bucks cant beat that price i just have to cut it off the truck its on. does anyone know of any problems i may run into during the axle swap. let me know. thanks for your help. ill post my progress.
is yoru front driveshaft stock/...or did you extend it when you lifted it...if you extended it youl have to shorten it because the pinion on the 60 sticks out closer to the t-case...if its still stock then it shoiudl be perfect.
if youve never changed those poor bushings on the front shackles...i would doit now...the ttbdana 50 wears them out quick
alos make sure you get teh steering linkage, tracbar and tracbar bracket from the donor truck....if you can snag things like driveshafts too...you can always use spar eparts
the truck ied all the bushingss a 95 f350. it was flipped on its side the bed and the cab is crushed. i was told there was no front end damage. thats all i know im waiting to here from the guy to see when i can pick it up. unless a have a couple of nice days, i prob. will not do anything till spring. i have to put stock rims on it without tires to get it into my garage. it was not recomended to shorten the front drive shaft so i left it. it seemed it had plenty of play. when i put the 4inches on i changed all the bushings. that was this past spring. they should b in good shape. im not sure of the gears. i have 356 i believe. i would like to go to 373. i use it on the highway to go to camp. it sucks on gas now so 411 may b too much. being a 350 it prob. has 373 or 411 on it im not sure though. i see a locker in my future.thanks 4 the imputsoom as i hear from that guy with the truck i will let u guys know whats up.
350 is a chev motor you mean 351 . Yeah its mostly likely 4.10's or 3.55's, rarely do you see 3.73's, the axle code on the door pillar on the donor truck will tell what gear ratio it has.
i ment F 350 one ton truck , sorry most dana have a tag on them. thats if noone took it off. hopefully i can find the tag or look at the door. if not i will gear both axles or make the 60 the same as the rear. thanks.
Yeah if all else fails you can pop a cover off (you should do this anyway to inspect everything to make sure its all good in there) and usualy the ratio is stamped on the side of the ring gear.
