I unplug the batteries, take the wiring harness off the ECM, pull out the ECM, clean the connections really well (what a PITA by the way), put in the chip, install everything back, hook up the batteries.
I turn over the key and have the chip in stock position. Everything is going well, then as soon as I start to turn over the starter, everything goes haywire. The winshield wipers are going, dash lights are blinking, etc. I try again and nothing happens except all the above and ECM is clicking. Now with the key out of the ignition, the inside dome lights are flashing at the speed of the turn signals I unplugged the batteries.
Took out the chip and its still doing it.
I called TS and they said they have never heard of this happening. I did some more researching and found a wire where the insulation had been stripped off from rubbing in the firewall from the previous owner that had cut the wire off right behind the ECM. Would this have shorted out and fried the module?
so any ides WTF is going on????

wow, that doesnt sound good. the first thing that i thought of was you have bent up some of the pins on the PCM (ECM) plug when you reinstalled in...good luck

Do u have a DVM? If the stripped wire was hot and ended up shorting to a ground it may have blown a fuse. I would imagine the module has circuit protection.
sorry...whats a DVM? I didnt see a blown fuse...so I must have fried the ECM somehow...or the batteries are just too low but I wouldnt think it would cause the dash and dome lights to blink. Its like the module is confused what to do so its doing everything.
Lets start over. Pull the PCM again and ensure you correctly cleaned both sides of the PCM and ensured ALL the silicone is gone. Inspect the wiring harness to the PCM prior to reinstalling it. If the wire you speak of is truly fried. Look for a related fuse and patch the wire. Reconnect the PCM and ensure it is installed correctly, X on PCM housing faces the drivers side door. Reconnect batteries, turn key on, ALL gauges etc will move while PCM resets self. wait for GPR and glow plug light to shut off, turn key until motor starts, listen to motor while turning the chip position **** you should hear idle changes in the motor. Take it for a drive. First off take a deep breathe panicing will only worsen the situation

DVM=digital volt meter. Helps diagnose electrical problems. Sears has a nice one
for around $25...a must for the tool box. Reads voltage(AC and DC) , current and ohm's(resistance).
Doesn't sound promising to me...probably need an experienced tech to figure out what happened. Maybe a bad connection,pinched...need wiring diagram. Retrace all your steps and maybe u just didn't make good or proper connection.
Oh yea I have one of those..sorry my mind is going a million mph right now....I thought it was a bad connection too....but the truck is doing all of this even with the chip OUT of the ECM. The X on the ECM is towards the outside of the truck and the wiring harness was just pulled straight back so that couldnt be that it is upside down.
I looked at the EMC when I took it out to take the chip out and I didnt notice any of the prongs broken or bent. I made sure it was snug when I tighted the 10mm bolt. The terminals for the chip where bright copper after I cleaned them.
the wire I found that had the insulation off of it was a wire the previous owner had ran for something....trailer brake or similar to that.
when i turn the key to the first position is when the lights just blink and you can hear the ECM clicking and glow plug relay turning on and off.
maybe bad ground from the batteries.
Its just too cold right now that I dont want to bother with it

Yeah...i know what u mean about being cold and working on electrical, sounds like u covered all bases...good!...easy enough to check battery ground with ohmmeter...probably something simple. maybe debris on PCB in module shorting something...slow down...take deep breath. Wish i was there to help u...i have 26yrs electronic tech exp.
ok guys.....sorry to freak out on ya but I think I got her figured out. I took my voltmeter and was getting an alternating (not steady) reading on the batteries. I took my hammer and tapped the top of the pos and neg terminals of the batteries and it stopped and I got a good reading!!
Dam DC, give me AC and I have no problems!!!!
now the truck doesnt want to start since the batteries are slightly drained and its 8* right now and been sitting in it for 24 hours. So I plugged her in and see if she goes in a bit.
Goes to show you how one little stupid thing will cause a world of problems.
So this weekend, I am putting new battery terminal connectors on while I am doing the front and rear rotors.....in my brother in law's work's HEATED shop
Thank you all for your input and great ideas!! It was of course the easiest fix out of anything.

Cool! Good to hear that...sometimes it's the simplest thing your overlook in a panic....been there...done that!
yeah no such luck....I hooked her up to a car to jump start and just turned over. After a couple tries...I noticed the tach wasnt moving.
I am guessing CPS? I ordered one the other day so hopefully gets here soon. If it is the CPS, I dont know why it picked now to go out.
I will check battery connections again as the PCM was clicking every once in a while when trying to start. Would insufficient power cause the tach not to move? I really gotta change those terminal connectors, they are SHOT.
