i have been away from the board for a while and i apoligize if this has been discussed before. enough said. can you buy just one fuel filter for the 6.0 instead of getting both. i change the one on top of the engine every oil change and the very poorly engineered one, in my opinion, every 15000 miles. i am accumalating quite a few of the chassis filters. thanks
change BOTH filters at the same time. the one that is a pain ( on the frame) is the one which collects the most junk. I take them apart with a hack saw to see what has been collected. I normally change at 12K. We went on a vacation towing our trailer this past summer. Changed the filters just prior to leaving. Coming back I didn't think we had the same power as when we first started out. Changed filters after 2500 miles. The one on the frame had so much stuff in it. It was a wonder the engine even ran. We had gotten some contaminated fuel on our trip.
I just bought my first diesel 03/ 6.0and I'm green..What is involved in changing fuel filters? I have a question in my mind about taking the fitler out and having to prime the fuel system.
I made an appointment for a transmission fliud change and a fuel filter change since the truck has 30K on it.
I always do my own work, so maybe someone can give me some good advice.
sorry for hijacking this thread,
In the tech procedure this comment is stated
" A very full fuel tank will cause the HFCM to drain fuel until tank is low enough for flow to stop."
What does this mean? How much do you actually drain from the HFCM?
also.....
I need directions to the tech folder without having to return to this link.
thanks in advance
What will happen is the tank will syphone down to a certain level. Normally if you do it when you have 1/2 tank of less. you'll get about 1 pt of fuel and maybe a little water. Messy job just follow the directions and do it where the diesel fumes won't bother the wife. You might get some fuel on you, down the arm, etc - so wear some clothes you don't mind getting rid of.
