Speedometer cable repair
How difficult is it to repair/replace the gear that the cable attaches to?
1979 F-250 4wd manual trans. The cable works fine, but where it connects to the tranny area, after removing the stay bracket.. I look in the hole and it looks like the 'worm' gear is worn inside the tranny . It looks like it is nylon or something. Any ideas of how labor intensive??

Speedometer cable repair
Easy,Undo the bolt that holds the Speedo cable retainer.
Pull the cable out,take off the gear retainer,pull off the gear <>
To install,do the reverse.

Pull the cable out,take off the gear retainer,pull off the gear <>
To install,do the reverse.

Speedometer cable repair
The cable should go to the transfer case on your truck.The gear is plastic and isn't to hard to get to.You will need to remove the driveshaft and the yoke,then take of the rear cover.It will slide of the shaft.
