lights-on dinger
#16
Thank you for the info.
Rider15, there is a clip on the barrel that the ignition switch goes in that holds a wire to connect/disconnect the dinger. My bet is that yours is broken or slipped and the wire is always engaged. Mine did that. Sometimes you can bang the side of the ignition switch to make the ding turn off. That would tell you for sure the problem is in there. You'll have to take the shroud off the steering column, then pop out the ignition switch. You'll see the wire and clip easily. I couldn't find the part myself, so I just glued the broken clip back in place. That works for a while, until the dust and vibration shake it loose again, but mine lasts a couple of years before I have to fix it again. Alternatively, you could eliminate the ding altogether as mentioned in this thread or others that were active around the time of the original thread.

On other vehicles owned previously, have located the little dinger box, and removed it from the wiring harness and threw it in the glove box. Usually messed up my dome light or some other convenience thing, but could you pull out the dinger box, damage it enough it will not work and re-install it? Have not been able to locate the thing on my F-450.
