Ill look into a 400 the only thing is with keeping the 351 m is that it has not been tore apart since 1978 when it was built. will the exaust on the 400 come out the same as the 351 m? I removed the new dual exaust when I put in the 302, so I would have it all later if I wanted to go back to the m block. the parts for these engine are expensive, do you know where I can get a rebuild kit? I'm in a small town with one parts store if that would tell you anything. I just bought a 87 4x4, and the 78 is now a complete restore project for my boys. It will never leave the family . the 78 is a very fun to drive, and its the end of the good built hard working trucks. thanks mi1ion!
tjc did you go with a 4 speed auto? the radator will also have to be changed also for cooling lines, was there anything hard that you ran into in this swap. my engine is a 300 6 they tell me same as 302 or 351w transmission. I'll start buying parts as soon as I know what is needes so everything will be here with no running out for something I forgot thanks
no, i went with the C6, because my diesel does not have a computer, i did not feel like messing with trans electronics, and i do not need the od, i have the crown vic for a highway cruiser, and one of the drivers has a new dodge hemi 4 door 4X4 250, and likes to drive, so whenever something needs to be picked up over 100 miles away, he drives, and i relax in the back seat.
thanks to you both will look at that site.............................................. .................... and figure out what rpm it will put my 87 in at 65 mph with a c 6
the best way to get an idea of how it will run with a C6 is to drive it around in 4th gear. 4th gear in the 5 speed trans is direct drive, like high gear in the C6. that is how i determined i could live with the C6 in my diesel. i drove a friends 5 speed diesel for a day, and never used overdrive.
