I found the article, its in the April 2004 Classic Truck Magazine. It's in the back entitled "A Little Breathing Room - The Extended Version"

The first is stock, the second is just the cab extended (requires frame extension too) and the third is the cab extended with the box shortened.
The look would take some getting used to for me, but once I got the feel of the extra length of the cab I'm sure the looks would become appealing real quick. At first glance it just looks out there !!!

If you're looking for a vote on this, put me down for pic #2. (course it'd be you lengthening the frame to fit it all, not me )

I vote for #2. I like #3, but the bed proportions look strange to me. Actually, both 2 and 3 look like too much stretch. How much stretch did you use?

I vote for #2 as well. I do not know how much stretch you used. I used to know a guy in new york state that stretched a ranger frame. He used an entended cab and a long bed. It looked good like that, but it was not body stretching. This is an interesting idea.

I guessamated about 8 inch on stretch, with the box shortened the same amount. I was wondering if paint might help - I mean paint that matches the chrome Ford put on the long doors of the era - I always like that. Sorry about the poor job, I am still learning how to manipulate images. Also black was a poor choice of colors -

I like the looks of #2 the most, Its alot more subtle and it keep the proportions more true to form. I think it would look killer with the big back glass!

Thats a great looking truck

#2 if going with the stepside bed, it looks out of proportion to me with the shorter bed unless you did a molded flairside style bed ala Avalanche. Wasn't there a Buick (Riviera?)or something in the 60s that had a 3 piece wrap around back window?

I saw a 48 F1 at the Supernats a few years ago that extended his cab through the doors. He added about 4"-6" and removed the vent windows. We stood there staring at it, knowing something was different but it took a while to figure it out. I think the one piece side window helped by distracting the eye. His proportions were nice.
GoodGuys has 2 Truck of the Year awards (early and late model) 2 years ago, both winners had extended the cab through the doors. They were both built by pro's. Maybe you can do a search to find photos.

I searched the goodguy's site and found no joy - did find the 2002 and 2005 winner's name, but no pictures of them even.

No other hits - any idea where I might find them?

1) I think that the C**** glass is available repro

2) I vote for picture #2, lose the vent window

3) After all this extending is done where is the seat?

4) Do it, call when you're done

FatFenders56 - the stock window is 16" wide, the vent about 6.5". If I did a 6" extension you are looking at a glass that is 22" wide. Removing the vent would make it 28.5". You think I could raise and lower that wide a window?

The seat would move back as I need the leg room, but I also want a couple of more inches between the cab back and the seat, plus some extra padding in the seat.

Look at some of the side glass in the huge 2 door land yachts of the 70's, a 28" glass shouldnt be a problem.

You know, you could always just take several inches out of your legs, once the casts come off it should be smooth sailing

Some of the new cars have glass at least that big, and even curved and unsupported out of the door. I think you might have a problem with the stock regulators not having enough counter balance, but power windows shouldn't be a problem.
