Hey I have a 77 f250 camper special 4x2 with a 460ci and when I start it when its really cold it keeps dying on me and the really odd part about it is when it starts to die I push on the acc pedal to rev it up it doesn't do ANYTHING! it just dies faster, and for it to stay started at all when I turn the key as soon as it turns over I have to have the pedal pushed almost all the way down so it jumps to 2000 rpms as fast as it can! any help would be appreciated greatly!!!
Sounds like the choke isn't working correctly, maybe try cleaning the choke plate and assy. If the plate is not closing completly when cold because of dirt and sludge, it could definately give you trouble. Have you looked at your choke assy to see if it closes tight on cold start ups?
I havn't really looked at the choke to see if its closing tight but I just recently rebuilt my carburetor so I don't think there could be sludge in there
Look at the choke plate and see if it needs adjustment, while you're there check to see if any vacuum lines are dammaged or disconnected. If you have a PCV check to see if all is good.
alright will do. I have checked the pcv valve, its good, I just replaced the vacuum lines also but I do have one concern, could it be the ported vacuum switch on top of the thermostat housing???
Doing what mil1ion said is a good idea, especially if you just rebuilt the carb. What I told you before should still be done though, it's fairly easy to do and not very time consuming. I've seen a few people have a similar problem and in most of those cases it turned out being choke related.
