Trans fluid for C6
I got a 1977 built 11/76 F250 4X4 351m C6 auto. I changed tranny fluid and replaced with type F. Then I was told to use mercon III, if so will type F hurt it? Do I need to replace it with mercon III?

I just had my tranny rebuilt this summer and the guy said I could use one or the other because of it being rebuilt. He recommended I start with Dexron III, but I could have used type F as well. He didn't care. He's the one who is guaranteeing it for 24,000 miles and 2 years, so I did what he recommended. Works fine. Type F will shift a little harder, Dexron III a little smoother.
Remember, this was for a rebuilt tranny, not a stock tranny. A stock tranny has a more specific need, I just don't remember which it is.
