My 97 F-150-4.6 seemed to be not heating so I started checking into it and found a small leak in the radiator. I had a new radiator installed yesterday cheaper than I could repair it myself. Well it still isn't heating like it should. Both heater hose's going into the firewall are hot but the top radiator hose coming from the radiator is soft and spounge. Could this be an air lock somewhere? The heater is putting out warm air but it should get really hot in the cab. (Regular Cab). Would the thermostat not be closing all the way?
I'm confused!!

Sounds like it is low on coolant. It may have had an air pocket and it has cleared leaving the system low. Top off the tank with a cold engine, close the cap and let the engine warm up. The hose should get firm as the engine heats up. If it doesn't you may still have a leak somewhere.
Well it was low on coolant so I topped it off and ran it but it still doesn't seem to be as hot as it should be. When I'm driving at 70 MPH it puts out more heat than it does when I'm only going 30 MPH.
Does the temperature gauge come up to the mid range? A low gauge reading is an indication of a bad thermostat. If it is in the mid range with the engine running compare the temperature of the heater hoses where they enter the cowl. They should both be hot with one slightly hotter than the other. If they are both hot the problem may be with the blend door inside. If one hose is only warm the heater core may be restricted and need flushing.
I had the same problem with my expedition. Turns out whats called the blend door was broken, and needed to be replaced. It also affected my A/C as well.
